At the age of 7, James was a bat boy for the Findlay Browns. He was 17 years old when he entered the US Navy. He graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College. James was an avid golfer with two holes in one. He was an Elks member for 70 years, a member of the Skeet Club and the American Legion. James also owned a family business, Bluffton Precast Concrete.
James is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Tillie; his children, David (Julie) Akin, Michael Akin (Lisa Beamer), Betsy (Jim) Stacy, and Susan Miller; his beloved grandchildren, Matt Reiber, Kelsie Coby, Geoffrey Akin, Chandler Akin, Grant Akin, Patrick Stacy, Erika (Stacy) Kroplin, McKenzie Miller, Nichole Miller and great-grandchildren, Lane and Mia Stacy, and Lincoln Coby.
Friends and family may visit from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at HUFFORD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Manor Hill Rd, Findlay. Funeral services will be held at conclusion of visitation at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the funeral home with Pastor Blair Hayward officiating. Interment will follow in Knollcrest Cemetery. Memorial contributions in James' name may be made to City Mission of Findlay or Findlay Hope House.
