CORONER BEDLE DEAD

Asbury F. Bedle of Keyport died suddenly last Friday morning from progressive paralysis, aged 51 years, 8 months and 9 days. He was stricken last November and has not been out of the house since.

Capt. Bedle was the son of William and Jane Bedle and was born at Keyport. His father was the leading undertaker of the place and Asbury helped him during his life and succeeded in the business in which he was a partner after his death.

On April 9, 1873, Capt. Bedle married Miss Mary A. Griffith of Matawan and she with five children survive him. They are Dr. W. Leslie Bedle of Havertown, N.Y.; Robert G. Bedle of Long Branch; Harvey S. Bedle, who assisted his father in the undertaking business; Miss L. Beatrice Bedle and Miss Flora A. Bedle of Keyport. He is survived by five brothers - Albert M., William and Melville C, of Keyport; Septimus of Glenwood, L.I. and Thomas of Robertsville and two sisters - Mrs. J.P. Coleman and Miss Vienna Bedle of Chicago.

Capt. Bedle was for several years an active member of old Company G. Third Regiment, N.G.N.J. and was out with the company during the riots of 1877. He served as sergeant, first lieutenant and captain and could have been a field officer had he so desired. For many years he was a trustee of the Raritan Guard Library Association. He was post high priest of Delta Royal Chapter, No. 14, and post master of C???? Lodge No. 64, F. and A. M. He was also post Grand of Bayside Lodge, No. 182 and a member of Monmouth Encampment, No. 51, I.O O F.. He also was a charter member of Chingagora Tribe No. 114, Imp. O.R.M. and was a director and secretary of the Second Keyport Loan Association. He was an exempt member of Keyport Engine Company, No. 1. and belonged to the Keyport Social Club.

In politics Captain Bedle was a Republican. He served twice as Town Commissioner and was Assessor of Raritan Township for several years.
In 1902 he was elected Coroner of Monmouth County for three years.

The funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at his late residence and interment was in Green Grove Cemetery.

The attendance was very large.
