Mr. Derrick Lewis, age 44, a native and resident of Gainestown, Alabama, was born February 27, 1973 to the late Louise Lewis and the late Nelson Williams. He passed away on August 30, 2017 at Jackson Medical Center, Jackson, Alabama.

He was a member of Gainestown AOH Church, Gainestown, Alabama and was formerly employed as an operator at Georgia Pacific in Monroeville, Alabama. Affectionately known as “DL” and “DLewis” to his friends, Derrick was very active and well-known throughout his community. His hobbies included, fishing, drag racing his Mustang, playing and listening to music. His favorite football teams were the Alabama Crimson Tide College Football and Green Bay Packers, and he enjoyed watching the “Animal Planet” Channel. There was never a dull moment with “DL”; he was always helping someone and would give them the shirt off his back.

He was a U.S. Army veteran who served his Country from August 8, 1992 until receiving his honorable discharge on May 4, 1995. His decorations, medals, badges, ribbons, and citations included Army Lapel Button, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Grenade Bar, and Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mamie Lewis; a brother, Jimmie Earl Lewis, and his father-in-law, Joe Allen Foxx.

He is survived by: his wife of 20 years; two sons; six sisters; six brothers; three aunts; two uncles; a mother-in-law; God-daughter; a loving family friend; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Viewing and Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017. Viewing from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Funeral Services begin at Gainestown AOH Church, 2036 Family Circle, Gainestown, Alabama. Elder Charles Watters, pastor will be the eulogist. Interment will follow with Military Honors at Gainestown AOH Church Cemetery. Arrangements by Andrews Funeral Home, 800 Depot Road, Jackson, Alabama.
