Following his undergraduate studies, Bruce pursued his Masters of Divinity at Drew University in Madison, NJ and married his college girlfriend Linda Schultz. They settled in Madison, NJ while Bruce pursued an unexpected career in Library Sciences at Drew and Linda took care of their two children; Amanda (Amy) and Elizabeth (Beth). Over time, Bruce and Linda divorced and he had long term relationships with his late partner Alice Kuchta and late wife Barbara Black Lancaster.
Bruce retired from Drew University after over 40 years of unparalleled research aid to students, faculty and anyone else who came to the library with an inquiring mind and a need for (hopefully obscure) materials. He never tired of furthering people on their academic and passion projects. He was also known worldwide as an authority on vintage Fords and pretty much any other car related topic that came before the 1980s; although his main objects of affection would always be the 32 Ford and the 48 Ford.
He leaves behind two children; Amanda Lancaster of Mount Tabor, NJ and Elizabeth Lancaster of Union, NJ, as well as his mother, Mary Elinor Lancaster, Sons-in-law Adam Rothgarn and Ryan Slegel and grandchildren Kaya, Andrew, Benjamin, Emmaline, Scarlett and Lily.
His Memorial Service will take place at 11 a.m. on December 7, 2019 at the First Baptist Church of Millburn, in Millburn, NJ.
Mourners who wish to commemorate Bruce with a contribution are invited to contribute to the American Diabetes Association (in honor of his late partners Alice and Barbara) or to contribute to the Drew University Library.
