Richard E. Shelby, 62 of Palmetto, GA and formerly of Pensacola, FL passed away Friday, July 13, 2007, in Newnan GA.
Mr. Shelby proudly served his country in the U. S. Marines Corp. He received two Purple Hearts from Vietnam, and awards as a sharpshooter and marksman. He was a current member of the Masonic Lodge # 87 of Jonesboro, GA, and Yaarba Shrine Temple of Atlanta, GA. Mr. Shelby was a loving devoted husband, and a dedicated family man. He had many interests that included baseball, hunting, racing and woodworking.
His parents, George and Annie Shelby; brother, Joseph H. Shelby; sister, Clara Shelby Nelson; and nephew, Howard Clinton preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 26 years, Faith "Jo" Shelby; children, Richard B. Shelby (Angie), Rachel (Shelby) Busby, Denise Shelby-Crumpler, all of Pensacola and Wanda Smith of Colorado; mother-in-law, Wanda Mainolfi of GA; sisters, Evelyn Fannin, Barbara Burgchardt, Linda Chinn (Roger); grandchildren, Lynn, Hunter, Chance, Brooke, Lexi, Andrew and Kimberly; numerous nieces, nephews, and a large extended family.
Visitation will be 5:00-7:00pm Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel.
Funeral Service will be 12 noon Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Ken Griffin officiating. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors.
Active Pallbearers will be Jason Lynn Busby Jr., Joe Shelby Jr., David Shelby, Mark Chinn, Danny Hardy, Jason Hardy, Aubrey Nelson and George Burgchardt.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Ernest Clark, Roger Chinn, Hunter Crumpler, Jed Upchurch and Johnny Bonifay.
In lieu of memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4400 Bayou Blvd. Pensacola, FL 32503.
