Bob Suggs passed away surrounded by family in Lynden, WA on November 19, 2019.

Bob was born in Ferndale, Washington, to Joel and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Suggs on February 19, 1934. He had one sibling, a sister, Kathy. Bob graduated from Ferndale High School in 1952 where he was a celebrated football fullback and place kicker known as "the boy with the golden toe".

He then graduated from Western Washington State College.

In 1955 Bob married the love of his life Carol Ann Boyd whom he met while roller skating. Soon after, he was drafted into the Army and was stationed in Kansas and Kentucky where their first child, Lori, was born. They settled in Bellingham and added three more children to the family; Linda, Jim, and Ron.

Bob had started a school teaching career at Ferndale High School when he was drafted. After his time in the service, he continued his career at Whatcom Middle School, Shuksan Middle School, Bellingham High School, and finally Bellingham Technical School from which he retired. He enjoyed coaching football and baseball.

However, his passion was commercial fishing where he worked in both the reef net and gill net fisheries. Pursuing his passion, Bob was instrumental in the Nooksack Salmon Enhancement program and worked with the Seagrant organization for a number of years.

But what he was perhaps most proud of was his appointment to the Fraser River Panel of the Pacific Salmon Commission from 1986 to 2001. While serving, he was involved with implementing the Pacific Salmon Treaty of 1985 between the governments of Canada and the United States.

During their lives together, Bob and Carol enjoyed many trips in their RV, traveling to Arizona during the winter and enjoying their cabin in Winthrop during the warmer months. Bob was also an avid outdoor sportsman. He and Carol made many trips to hunt for deer and fish for trout. One of their favorite places to go for trout was Crooked Lake and the Cariboo territory in Canada.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kathy; and beloved wife, Carol.

He is survived by his four children: Lori Philpott (Ken), of Ferndale, Linda Suggs, of Lynden, Jim Suggs (Karen), of Panama, and Ron Suggs (Sheila), of Monroe; eight grandchildren: Lindsay, Brienn, Stephen, Kirsten, Travis, Adam, Mallory and Jared; and four great-grandchildren: Logan, Lexi, Jace and Kasen.

Per Bob's request, there will be no formal service, just a private celebration of life with immediate family members at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Gillies Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
