Michael Wayne Scales, 62, of Colorado City passed away Friday, November 15, 2019. He was born on October 20, 1957 in Houston, Texas to Douglas Wayne Scales and Lurline (Hataway) Scales. Michael graduated high school in 1975 from Logansport and attended Panola College from 1976-1977. In 1979 Michael graduated from the DPS Academy. He worked for DPS for 30 years and retired as a DPS Sergeant. He was also a Master Mason. Michael was passionate about the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, golfing, and spending time with his family. He was passionate about encouraging youth outdoor activities, especially hunting, and volunteered his time to help these organizations. On duty or off Michael served. He would build things for you, drive long hours to help you, teach you how to tie a lure, let you shoot all the deer, and cook for anyone that showed up. He loved spoiling his little dog, Tootsie. . Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00PM Wednesday, November 20, 2019 in the Chapel of Starbuck Funeral Home in Merkel, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Thursday, November 21, 2019 in the Chapel of Beltway Park South Campus in Abilene, Texas. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel.
