Barbara Jean Clements 87, of Greenwood, Indiana died peacefully in her sleep on November 19, 2019 at Grand Brook Memory Care. Born December 5, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois, Barbara was the daughter of the late Walter Weidman and Grace (Elmers) Weidman.

Barbara is preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Raymond Eugene Clements.

She is survived by her two daughters, Cathy (John) Toole of Greenwood, Patti (John) Buh of Winfield, IL, and her son Mike Clements (Cathy) of Sedalia, MO; grandchildren, Cristy (David) McArdle of Zionsville, Michael (Amber) Toole of Fort Wayne, Kevin Buh of Winfield, IL, Elizabeth Clements of Seattle, WA, Emily Clements of Kansas City, MO, and Lucas (Andrea) Dooley of Bloomington, IL; great-grandchildren, Brady and Griffin McArdle of Zionsville, Juliet, Addi, and Eli Toole of Fort Wayne, and Attalia Basset, Aithen Bassett, and Asher Dooley of Normal, IL.

Barb was blessed from the moment of her birth when she was adopted by two loving parents. She would state with pride that her parents would often exclaim how lucky they were to pick her out and bring her home while all the other parents were “stuck with their children.” The blessings would continue when Barb met her eventual husband, Ray, in third grade at Ainsworth Elementary School. The two were high school sweethearts at Merrillville High School, and married in 1952. Barb later graduated as a nurse from Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in 1953. Barb started her nursing career as a labor and delivery nurse in West Lafayette, Indiana while Ray finished his degree in mechanical engineering at Purdue. Following those early years, Barb and Ray started their family and over the span of ten years welcomed three children. Barb was a devoted wife and mother who ran the household and facilitated the activities of a busy family. Over the years, Ray’s career moved the family to Franklin, Indiana and then to Bloomingdale, Illinois; Ray and Barb eventually made their way back to Indiana when they purchased a 60-acre farm in Columbus. Together, Barb and Ray filled their retirement years with family vacations, European travel with friends, lots of mowing, hosting family holidays, and enjoying their many pets from horses to dogs and the ever-present farm cat. Following Ray’s death, Barb continued to find joy in her family, and of course, her dogs.

For Barb, her husband and family were everything. To her husband, she was the love of his life and cherished beyond words. To her children, she provided what children desire most – an endless amount of time, boundless interest, and unwavering support. She was always willing to provide a listening ear and a tender heart. She willingly carpooled to countless events, sat through trumpet and violin lessons, cheered and “jeered” at basketball games, made costumes for school musicals, and the list goes on. To her grandchildren, she was affectionately known as Grandma Barbie, the maker of hand-made Christmas stockings, Halloween costumes, chocolate chip “Frisbee” cookies, and an eager and willing babysitter. To her great-grandchildren, Grandma Barbie will always be remembered for sharing her jelly beans. And to all who knew her and loved her, her smile will never be forgotten.
