Lien Thi Bich, the daughter of Ban Van Bui and Hien Thi Pham Bui was born July 31, 1971 in Vung Tau, Vietnam. At a young age Maria immigrated to the United States living in Kansas and then to Indianola, Iowa where she graduated with the Class of 1990. She worked for Norwest Financial starting as a teller and then as a loan processor.
Maria met Tuan Viet Nguyen through her sister Le and soon thereafter they were married February 5, 1994 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Des Moines, Iowa. To this union they had three daughters, Britani, Caitlin, and Faith.
Maria was a full-time homemaker raising her and Tuan’s children. She supported her husband during his two deployments to Iraq. Maria enjoyed taking care of herself and working out. She had a strong commitment to taking care of her family and extended family. She especially enjoyed shopping with her sisters.
Maria enjoyed traveling. She especially liked to travel to Cancun, Mexico with her family where she’d bathe in the sun and enjoy the full exclusivity of the resorts; the food, drinks and entertainment. Maria enjoyed her weekend time with her husband, Tuan, running at Gray’s Lake. She loved spending time with her “big baby” Alby, a yellow lab, watching movies, feeding and buying him toys.
