David Wade St. Clair, 70, of 1350 Hathshire Drive, died Saturday, January 7, 2012. He was son of the late Jesse Wade and Belvin Wallace St. Clair. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wilma Janette St. Clair; one brother, Joe St. Clair; and a brother-in-law, Dick Ledford. He was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church where he served as vice-chairman of the ushers. He loved to watch and participate in his grandchildren's activities. He had hobbies of restoring old cars and writing song lyrics, and he loved playing with his dog, Barney Fife. David loved everyone and he was greatly loved. His greatest passion was being a servant of others and a true servant of God.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda McCoy St. Clair; two daughters, Amy Plyler and husband, Brian, and Laurie Hicks and husband, Rusty, all of Charlotte; one step-son, John Barnett and wife, Sarah, of Gastonia; four grandchildren, Alyssa and Ally Cummins, Breanna Plyler, and Eliza (EJ) Barnett; two sisters, Ellen Ledford of Concord, Marie Huffstetler and husband, Perry, of Gastonia; and one brother, Jimmy St. Clair of Charlotte.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. St. Clair will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church - Main Campus, 6050 Hickory Grove Road, Charlotte, NC 28215 with Reverend John Harrill, Reverend Henry Ward, and Reverend Arnold Kessler officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery and Memorial Gardens, 1520 West Sugar Creek Road, Charlotte, NC 28262. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to: Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 6050 Hickory Grove Road, Charlotte, NC 28215; the grandchildren's education fund, in care of 1350 Hathshire Drive, Charlotte, NC 28262; or to the Western Carolina Alzheimer's Association, 6800 Shamrock Road, Charlotte, NC 28215. Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly is serving the family.
