Dr. John S Hilliard went to be with his heavenly family on the 15 of November 2019. Born In Hot Springs Arkansas 29 October 1947 to Sherlon and Laurine Hilliard.

John is survived by his wife Mineko Yoshida of Mt Sidney Va, his brother Nathan Hilliard of Williamsburg Va, two daughters, Ms Sachi Hilliard of Los Angeles Ca and Ms. Mika Hilliard of Washington DC.

John held degrees from Ouachita Baptist University (BA) Virginia Commonwealth University (MA) and Cornell University (DMA). He recently retired from James Madison University (25 years) as Professor of Music, Resident Composer teaching music theory and composition.

John as a Fulbright Scholar brought music into this world working in Hong Kong, Japan and in Germany to finish Mozart unfinished symphony. Was commissioned by President Elect Bill Clinton ( a childhood and band team mate of Johns) to write the Procession and Fanfare music for the inaugural day ceremonies of his first administration.

We loved him and will miss him dearly.

The family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 3:00pm on Monday, November 18, 2019 at Charlton and Groome Funeral Home, 619 Lifecore Drive, Fishersville, VA 22939. A funeral service will be held 10:30am on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 214 W. Beverley Street, Staunton, VA 24401 conducted by The Rev. Denise Guinta. Graveside Service will be held 10:00 am on Wednesday November 20, 2019 at Edgewood Cemetery in Grottoes, Virginia.
