He was born July 25, 1956, in Grand Rapids, Minn. He was a Greenway High School graduate and later attended Itasca Junior College and graduated from Bemidji State University with a degree in elementary education. He worked for nine years as teaching principal at Border/Loman/Indus schools near Baudette, Minn., from 1971 to 1980.
He was married in 1979 to Gwen Hasbargen, formerly of Birchdale, Minn., and moved to the Bovey area in 1981. Ron taught for District 318 in various schools including Grand Rapids Middle School, Grand Rapids High School, Warba Elementary, Togo Elementary, and for the past three years has been teaching at Forest Lake Elementary.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed many other activities such as racquetball, skiing and camping. A highlight of every school year was a camping trip for his students. He was a member of Itasca County YMCA, was a Boy Scout leader, played drums in the roadsters Band, and attended the Evangelical Free Church of Grand Rapids.
He is survived by his wife Gwen, a son Brandon at home, and a daughter Michelle at home; a very special friend, Frank Jacobson of Cedar, Minn.; two sisters, Joan (John) Colwell of Bovey and Shirley Saul of Minneapolis, Minn.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and numerous friends.
