Mr. Bobby Ray Rogers, age 81 of Sparta, Tennessee, passed away Sunday morning, November 17, 2019 at St. Thomas Highlands Hospital. Bobby, or "B.R." as he was commonly referred to around the golf course, was born on March 16, 1938 in Winchester, Tennesee to the late
Robert Walden Rogers and Mary Ollie Armstrong Rogers. He was a longtime sub-regional sales manager and instructor for Combined Insurance Company. Bobby was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force where he served as Air Force Police. He was a semi-pro baseball pitcher with a career that spanned throughout his younger days, and afterwards. His love for baseball carried over into his life in Sparta, as he was instrumental in the building of the Babe Ruth Field. He was a fixture at White County High School basketball games as a season ticket holder and traveled to many away games. B.R. was an avid golfer. If he was not working, he could be found at the Sparta Country Club. He served many years on the Board of Directors and held the office of President for several years. B.R. was a member of Cumberland Heights Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his sister
Katherine Martinez; brothers Woodrow Wilson Rogers and Jimmy Rogers.
Surviving family members include his wife of 51 years Kay Wilson Rogers of White County.
Three sons: Gary Lane Rogers, Bryan Gregory Rogers and special daughter-in-law Keri of Ohio, Jason Adam Rogers of Williamson County; Grandchildren: Jordan, Megan and Tristan;
Sisters: Jeanette Smith and Talmadge "Sis" Shenfeld;
Sister-in-law: Janice Wilson Clark and husband Tommy;
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Services will be conducted Wednesday, November 20, 2019 from the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will follow in Highland Cemetery. Doug Downs will officiate.
