Melissa Marian Nix, 43, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 13, 2019, after a short but valiant fight with breast cancer. Services will begin at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 18, in the Memorial Chapel of Broadmoor Baptist Church with visitation in the church parlor from 10:00 until the service time. Leading the celebration of her life will be Dr. Tom Harrison and Rev. Frank Gunn. Interment will be at Forest Park Cemetery on St. Vincent Ave.

Melissa was born on November 24, 1975, in Atlanta, Georgia to Collins and Nancy Nix. She lived most of her life in Shreveport, graduating from C.E. Byrd in 1994. She attended the University of Colorado at Boulder, living and working in Colorado for several years. She also lived in Florida and Brazil before moving back to Shreveport where she met her husband, the love of her life, Jason Porter.

Melissa was preceded in death by her grandparents, Elise and Ralph Nix and Adelaide Creamer and Robert Creamer. She is survived by her husband, Jason; her step-children, Andrew and Angela; her parents; and her siblings, Merrill Nix McCarthy (Mark), Michelle Nix Roch (Charlie) and Ryan Nix (Kelly). She is also survived by her beloved nephews and nieces, Neil Collins and John Patrick McCarthy, Palmer and Adelaide Roch, and Charlotte Nix. Melissa’s only cousin, Lauren Creamer McLaughlin Travers (Joe), Lauren’s twins, Aiden and Alice; uncle and aunt, Robert Creamer and Jan Schakowsky; and great aunt, Margaret Nix Evans, also survive her. Her precious dog, Genny Roo will also grieve her passing.

Serving her as pallbearers will be John Anderson, Charles Beard, Dr. Michael Fleming, Richard Maddox, Bob Marak, Bob Petrus, Jeff Victory, and David Werntz.

The family would like to thank Dr. Alireza Minagar and Dr. Peimin Zhu, as well as the 3rd floor north cancer wing of the Willis-Knighton Medical Center, the doctors and staff of the WK Cancer Center, and the staff of the WK Hospice group, for their compassionate care.
