Kenneth C. Steinhoff Sr., 81, of Sparta, died Monday, October 2, 2006 at Franciscan Skemp Healthcare, La Crosse. He was born on May 31, 1925 in Lyons Valley, Monroe County, WI to Frank and Clara (Schaller) Steinhoff. He grew up in Lyons Valley.

He worked for an area farmer and then joined the US Army. He served during WWII and was stationed in Germany. After the war, he moved back to the Sparta area.

Kenneth married Margaret E. Kinney on September 23, 1947 in Madison, WI. He worked for Bowman Dairy for two years, delivering milk in the Madison area. He and Margaret then moved to Norwalk and purchased a farm in 1951. Together, they raised eight children.

Kenneth was a farmer all of his working days. He was a livestock dealer, an antique dealer, was active in the Tri-County Pony Caravan, was a member of American Legion Post 508 in Wilton, and enjoyed horses and auctions.

Kenneth is survived by his children, Bonnie (Donald) Bender of Mt Horeb, WI, Debbie (Roger) Laufenberg of Janesville, WI, Karen (Bob) Marty of Kendall, WI, Susan (Jim) Kuderer of Norwalk, WI, Kenneth "Chuck" C. Steinhoff Jr. of Monona, WI, Pam (Steven) Weaver of Monona, Cynthia Steinhoff-Brummund of Lincoln, NE, and Connie (Kirt) Brummund of Camp Douglas, WI; special friend, Alice Leis of Norwalk; 19 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and a sister, Elaine Metropolit of Seattle, WA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret in 1995; a granddaughter, Tammy Bender in 1984; a sister, Gertrude; and four brothers, Leonard, Harold, Bernard, and Gerald.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Sparta, with Father James Leary OFM Cap officiating. Burial will be St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Wilton.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta, on Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a 8 p.m. prayer service and Thursday at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.

The Lanham-Miller Funeral Home, Sparta, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
