Joan A. Mitchell, age 71, of Cottage Hills, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2019, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born May 22, 1948, in Wood River, the daughter of Paul and Ruth (Cooper) Shrout.She married Kenneth Mitchell on June 30, 1979 in East Alton and he survives.

Joan had worked as an inspector at Olin Corp. for many years. She had also worked for Owens-Illinois. Joan was an active member of Dayspring Foursquare Church in South Roxana where she enjoyed singing with the choir and performing solos.She will be fondly remembered for her love of cooking and trout fishing.

In addition to her husband, Kenneth; she is survived by a daughter and her husband, Mandy and Todd Bruene of Alton; four sisters and their husbands, Wilma and Frank Pelan, Helen Williams, Paula and Kelley Harper, and Thelma and Cliff McAfee.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Lloyd, in infancy.

Visitation will be held Saturday, November 23, 2019 from 10:00 am until a Celebration of Life at Noon at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto with pastor Norman Wilfong officiating.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Burial will take place in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
