In the 1910 census he is 14 and living with his married 35-yr-old sister (head of household) Carrie Williams and her children. They list their mother's place of birth as Arkansas.
WWII draft registration at age 45, in Los Angeles. Still listing Mrs. A.A. Williams as his contact person. This is the first document I found that has his middle name spelled out as Jay rather than just an initial J. He signed this document Tracy Jay Carroll.
His death certificate lists his father's name as Smith Ferguson Carroll (Virginia) and his mother as Tracy Louise Johnson (Arkansas) and his wife as Cozetta Lucille Carroll. The birth location of Virginia is probably wrong, as other documentation says South Carolina and North Carolina. Without an actual birth certificate it is anyone's guess. He was employed for the past 15 years at Challenge Creamery as an engineer.
