Melville (Mel) Charles Cavers
A retired textile worker and veteran of World War II, Melville Charles Cavers at his home at the age of 78 years on May 25, 2001. The son of Thomas Edgar Cavers and Bessie (McNabb) Cavers, Mr. Cavers was born in Almonte on July 23, 1922 and was educated in Appleton at Ramsay SS#12 school. In addition to his work and World War II service, Mr. Cavers was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 240 in Almonte, and a lifetime resident of this area. He is survived by sister Agnes Tudor of Toronto and her children Sharon, Robert (Patricia), and Stephen (Mary Ann); sister-in-law. Barbara Cavers (Harold) and her son Glen (Julie); and great-nieces and great-nephews David, Stephanie, Melissa, Steven, Laura, Greg and Kyle. Mr. Cavers was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Frank and Harold. He was also a close friend of Queenie Barr and her family. Funeral services took place at the chapel of the C.R. Gamble Funeral Home in Almonte on May 28 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ken Robinson officiating. Pallbearers were Delbert Barr. Shaun Barr, Brad Barr. Jack Hudson, Charlie Kitts and Johnny O'Connell. Burial is at United Cemeteries in Carleton Place
