Sarah Elizabeth Taylor Kane was quietly called away by God on Sunday, July 8, 2007 at her residence.

She was born to the late Benjamin Taylor and the late Harriett Brooks Taylor on September 22, 1915 in Richmond, Virginia.

Sarah attended the elementary and high schools in Richmond, Virginia. She received a B.S. Degree in 1932 from Virginia Union University in Richmond, and a Master of Arts Degree in Administration and Supervision from New York University in 1956.

In 1938, Sarah married the late Aaron C. Kane, Sr. Out of their union, a son, Aaron, Jr. was born.

She was a distinguished Educator. Before coming to Charles County, she served two years as an Elementary Teacher in Spotsylvania County, Virginia and eight years as a High School Teacher in Harford County, Maryland. Sarah joined the Charles County School System in 1946 and served 31 years as a teacher, vice principal, and principal until her retirement in 1977.

Her professional memberships included NEA, (National Education Association) life member of MRSPA (Maryland Retired School Personnel Association) CCRPA (Charles County Retired Personnel Association), and Assistant Coordinator South Central Region of Area III (MRTA) among others.

Her affiliations in organizations included Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (Nu Zeta Omega Chapter, Waldorf, MD), and Southern Maryland Chain Chapter, Links, Inc. She was affiliated with the Pride of Southern Maryland Temple #651, I. B. P. O. E. W. (Elks) and Truth Chapter, Order of Eastern Star #19. She had held offices in both organizations.

Other organizations included the NAACP, Glymont Homemakers, AAUW (American Association of University Women), and Chi Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma, (an organization for teachers). She gave her service at a Nursing Home, tutored reading to adults and disadvantaged students and volunteered at a Senior Citizens Nutrition Site. "Service to All Mankind" was her lifelong joy.

Sarah enjoyed her many years of attendance and service to Metropolitan United Methodist Church. She was active in several ministries of the church including the United Methodist Women. She assisted her late husband for many years with the Senior Choir. Her music continued many evenings and nights as she taught piano lessons to many students, of whom she frequently boasted of their achievements in music. Her love for devotions and meditations were a part of her daily routine until her death. At home she played the piano, sang, and meditated daily. Very often she would invite her neighbors and friends to join her. This daily practice continued when she moved to Richmond. She was greatly uplifted by her late nephew, Louis Baccus, an ordained Deacon, who sang and meditated with her, along with other family members.

While living in Richmond, Sarah was a member of the First Baptist Church, South Richmond.

During her lifetime, Mrs. Kane received numerous awards and citations. Her biography was published in "Who's Who among Women" and "Personalities of the South'. Other awards include the Maryland Senior Citizens Hall of Fame, "Geri" award in 1993, and the Maryland's Jaycee's and Charles County Jaycee's Plaques in 1993.

In addition to her son, Aaron, she is survived by her grandchildren, Joi Kane and Aaron C. Kane, III, two sisters, Ruth T. Jackson and one very devoted, Grace T. Baccus, sister-in-law, Ellen Taylor, eight nieces, one devoted, Harriett B. Davis, fifteen nephews and a host of other relatives and friends, one very devoted, Eva Chesley.

Her viewing took place on Tuesday, July 17, 2007, 9am until time of service 11am at the Metropolitan United Methodist Church, 3385 Metropolitan Church Road, Pomonkey, Maryland. Interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, Maryland. Arrangements entrusted to Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., Indian Head, Maryland.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron C. Kane, Sr.
