Walter Scott Ellis of West Logan, WV departed this life on November 14, 2019. He was born at Henlawson, WV on June 27, 1936. He was the son of the late Emert and Sarah Lou Ellis. Scott worked for the United States Postal Service for 26 years. He was a dedicated mail carrier for the Logan area and the postmaster at the Stollings/McConnell Post Office.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 51 years, Linda Taylor Ellis. He was also preceded in death by his five brothers, Charles Morris Ellis, Bill Ellis, James (Jimmy) Ellis, Joseph Ellis and Pete Ellis, and five sisters, Mamie Blevins, Mary Hatcher, Lenna Mullins, Ailene Spurlock, and Ernestine Stultz.

Scott was an avid sports fan. He was a loyal supporter of Logan Wildcat Basketball, West Virginia Mountaineer Basketball and Football, and the Cincinnati Reds. He attended the West Virginia High School Basketball State Tournaments faithfully for over 40 years. Scott passed his love of sports to the youth of our community as a coach for the Logan Buddy League. Under his guidance, the boys learned about teamwork, good sportsmanship, and fair play. Leading his teams to success and watching his players grow into fine young men brought him joy.

Scott was an active member of the West Logan Missionary Baptist Church. He loved Pastor Bob Morris and his church family and faithfully worshipped alongside them each Sunday. When Scott arrived, everyone knew it was time to begin the service.

Scott dearly loved his children and grandchildren. His love and commitment to family could be felt by all. Scott spent many happy hours surrounded by his entire family for holidays, special events, or simply having dinner. He brought life and joy to family gatherings and he will be sorely missed. He will be remembered for his warm smile, wild stories, and sense of humor. You just never knew what Scott might say to bring a smile to your face. Scott was a much loved husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Those left to cherish his memory and celebrate his life are his son, Scottie Ellis of West Logan, and his daughters, Terri (Kelly) Underwood of Madison, WV, and Sherri (Todd) McDonald of West Logan, WV. He was the proud grandfather of Michael (Christen) Ellis, Taylor Ellis, Kelsea Ellis, Kaleigh Underwood, Kaden Underwood, Nicholas McDonald and Ashton McDonald, and one great-grand daughter: Lyla Grace Ellis. Also surviving are three sisters: Linda Cook, Betty Chapman, and Delana Huddy.

Services will be on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at 1:00 PM at the West Logan Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to service. Pallbearers will be Mike Stone, Steve Browning, Bill Copley, Mark Porter, Darren Akers, and Jim McMillen. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill, WV.
