Leonard Jackson “Jack” Hodges Jr., age 74, went to be with his precious Lord and Savior on November 14, 2019. Jack was born on September 22, 1945, in Henderson, Texas to L.J. “Bogie” and Audrey Pett Hodges. Jack was raised in New Salem and attended New Salem and Henderson schools. He is survived by his wife who was the love of his life for 52 years, his two daughters and sons-in-law of Henderson, and their three daughters who were the joy of his life. He is also survived by his brother and sister along with a host of beloved nieces and nephews and many who knew him as their “Uncle Jack” or “Grandaddy”. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Daun Merlyn McGregor and nephew Terry Lynn McGregor.

Jack accepted Jesus Christ as his savior at the age of 22 and was baptized at the First Southern Baptist Church of Laneville, Texas. Since 1986, Jack has been an active member of First Baptist Church in Henderson where he served as a deacon and member of the Mens Adult VI Sunday School Class. For over 50 years, he has been a Master Mason, a member of the Clinton Masonic Lodge #23, a Shriner, and a body of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Southern Jurisdiction, USA Orient of Texas Valley of Waco. He spent his entire adult life in the sawmilling, forestry, and timber businesses, in which he was a joint owner of Hodges Lumber Company, Inc. with his father, Bogie, and his brother, Buddy. Jack also owned his own timber business, Jack Hodges Timber Company, Inc. He was a Pro Logger and a member of the Texas Forestry Service for over 25 years and a member of the Texas Logging Council.

Those closest to Jack will remember him for a few distinct characteristics. Jack loved growing and sharing his giant delicious tomatoes and tongue scorching peppers. He also loved visiting and caring for elderly, shut-ins, and the sick. One of his characteristics that will not soon be forgotten was that he assumed everyone should wake up every morning at 3:30am just as he did and start their day.

Some of his hobbies included quail hunting, playing 42, and riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle with Jean and their friends. Jack loved gardening, and staying in great physical shape. After he and Jean fell in love with their role as grandparents, they longed to spend most every day playing with their three beautiful granddaughters. His and Jean’s favorite and most special memories together were made traveling across the beautiful Texas Hill Country together.

The Jack Hodges family requests your presence to a time of visiting and celebrating on Saturday, November 16, 2019, at 9:00am, preceding the 10:30am service to be held in the First Baptist Church Sanctuary, then to a Masonic Graveside Service to be held at The New Salem Cemetery. Services will be under the direction of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home with Dr. David Higgs, Scott Crawford, and John Leach officiating.

Pallbearers will be friends in his FBC Men’s Sunday School Class. Honorary pallbearers will be William “Bill” Snow, Jim Dudley, Robert Porter, Jim Bob Porter, Eddie Armstrong, Daniel McMillen, Ron Hall, Nathan Moore, and Phil Stanley.
