On Monday, November 11, 2019, Mary Ethridge Britton, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away at the age of 96.

Mary will forever be remembered by her son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Carol Britton; grandchildren, Lanie (wife Delaine) Britton, Mariruth (husband Tim) Van Hal, and Katie (husband Adam) Baxter, and 7 great-grandchildren.

Mary was born on January 29, 1923 in Bulloch County, Georgia. It was there, in Statesboro, she met her husband of 52 years, Charles Lanier. Mary and Charles moved several times for Charles' job with Delta Airlines. She was a lifelong educator and upon settling in Alcoa in 1967 she taught at Charles M. Hall High School after which she moved to Alcoa Elementary School where she continued until 1985 when she retired.

She was a member of First Baptist Alcoa for 52 years.

The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, November 18 at Smith Trinity Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 p.m. Family and friends will assemble at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 19 for the interment service at Grandview Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church Alcoa Facilities Enhancement Fund, 819 Gilbert St, Alcoa, TN 37701.
