Essie Velma Wilburn. Who later became Essie Kelly Walker was born on October 10th, 1927 in Shelby, Mississippi to Josephine Wilburn. Essie was raised by her grandparents Joe and Mattie Wilburn, she grew up and graduated from Coleman High School in Greenville, Ms. Sometime later she met and married James H. Kelly and had one son Dwight D. Kelly born on June 25th, 1949, after Dwight turned one years old they moved to Michigan, a year later another son was born Arnold D. Kelly.
Essie and James divorced sometime later. She raised her two sons on her own without any help from welfare. She started working at Simplicity Patten Co in Miles, Michigan. Later she met and married Audrey Walker and had a son Austin L. Walker. The marriage ended in divorce. She continued to raise her three sons on her own without any child support from either husband. She continued to work at Simplicity Pattern Co, retiring thirty years later.
Her best friend Rita Holliway lived in Las Vegas and that’s how she made her way to Las Vegas, where she purchased two homes, she lived in one and rented the other one. She also purchased a home in Niles, Michigan where she moved from to Las Vegas. Essie did this without any help from anyone. She continued to work in the city of Las Vegas as a security guard.
