OXFORD, Ohio Dr. John S. Lyons, 67, late of Oxford, passed away, after a short illness, on Sunday, October 30, 2011. He was born in Albany and preceded in death by his father Dr. John J.A. Lyons of Feura Bush. He was an assistant professor of economics at Miami University of Ohio for the last 26 years and also lectured at several universities in the U.S., Europe and Canada. He was the valedictorian of Bethlehem Central High School, class of 1962. He received an A.B in physics from Harvard University in 1966 and a Ph.D in economics from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1977. He served in the U.S. Peace Corps as a cooperative aide to the government of Kenya from 1966 to 1968. He was an avid student of economic history and co-edited "Reflections on the Cliometrics Revolution: Conversations with Economic Historians" published in 2008, and many other scholarly articles. He was a member of numerous economic history organizations including American Economic Association, Economic History Association (US), Economic History Society (UK), European Historical Economics Society and Society for the History of Technology. He is survived by his mother, Anne of Feura Bush; sisters, Cynthia (Colwell) and Susanne (Falzo); brothers, Robert, Richard, Thomas, Kenneth and Clifford; nieces, Sara and Rebecca Lyons and Kimberly Colwell; nephews, Kevin Colwell, John and Ben Lyons and Ryan Falzo; great-nephew, Landon Falzo; and his longtime companion, Diana McGreevy. Interment will be private with a memorial to be held in the spring.
