Hazel was born July, 21, 1933 in Ona, Arkansas to Kenneth Heiney and Pearl (White) Heiney. She attended Bluejacket High School, graduating as salutatorian of her class. She attended Northeastern State in Tahlequah where she obtained a teaching degree in math.
She then taught Junior High in Foyil, Okla. for two years. She then moved to Kansas and taught in Leon and Winfield before settling in Chanute where she taught for 30 years. Upon retirement, she returned to Bluejacket to care for her mother. She served on the Bluejacket Town Board for many years.
She was a sister, aunt, and friend to so many people. She had a generous, giving heart and contributed to many causes and organizations. She was always there to lend a helping hand to family or anyone in need.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Margie Crabtree and Sylvia Heiney; six brothers, Russell Heiney, Bud Heiney, Clifford Heiney, Tom Heiney, Dale Heiney, and George Heiney; two brothers in law, Kenneth Crabtree and James Durbin; and a sister in law, Ruth Heiney.
She is survived by a sister, Winnie Durbin of Bluejacket; a brother, Ralph Heiney and wife Sandy of Bluejacket; three sisters in law, Florine Heiney, DeeAnn Heiney, and Sylvia Heiney; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
The family will greet friends from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at the Thomas & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Welch. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2019 , also at the Funeral Home. Pastor Ralph Heiney will officiate. She will be laid to rest in the Bluejacket Cemetery.
