John Mickelson passed away Saturday, November 9, 2019, at age 90.

John was born on January 26, 1929, in Iron Mountain, MI to John and Helen (Thorin) Mickelson.

He was married to Mary Louise Napoli in 1951 and had two children – Mark and Susan.

John graduated from Boys Technical High School in Milwaukee in 1947 and went to Dana College in Blair, NE for three years before joining the Air Force in 1951. He served one full term of service until 1955. He served at Keesler Air Force Base, MS, Goose Bay, Labrador and Eglin Air Force Base, FL.

Among his jobs, John worked for AC Electronics in Oak Creek, WI where he worked as a technician with Airborne Inertial Guidance Systems and in airborne and ground support equipment maintenance. He also worked on the APOLLO space program, supporting ground support equipment.

John was an avid stamp collector, enjoyed building model airplanes and was fascinated with airplanes and flying. He enjoyed attending the EAA Air Venture in Oshkosh, WI every year. And in November 2016 he was able to participate in an Honor Flight to Washington DC, and just loved it.

Over the years he also enjoyed automobile trips with his family across the country. John was also very active in the churches he attended, singing in the choir and teaching confirmation classes. His family and friends will miss his sweet, gentle, loving nature and his corny puns and humor.

John is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Mickelson, by his son Mark Mickelson and by his sons-in-law Andy Toth and Santiago (Jimmy) Garza.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Susan Toth, his sister Janice Wallin and his parents John and Helen Mickelson.

A luncheon will follow, and Burial and military honors will be held at 3:00 PM at Arlington Cemetery, 4141 South 27th Street, Greenfield, Wisconsin.
