She was born Veda Gay Dalton on October 2, 1921 in Glace, West Virginia to the late Nigah and Bina (Webb) Dalton, and was the last surviving sibling of the Dalton Family of 11 children; brothers, John, Nealy, Posie, Franklin and Simon; sisters, Goldie, Gladys, Grace, Loretta and Bonnie. In addition to her parents and siblings, she was also preceded in death by her husband, James Walker Thomas, whom she married in Covington, Virginia on November 6, 1942; and beloved son, Rick Thomas in 2016.
Gay lived most of her life in West Virginia and Ohio, but enjoyed several years in Palm Desert, CA. A loving Mother, she always put her kids first before herself, wanting to be remembered for the love she felt for her family. A fun loving person with a unique sense of humor, she kept her faith and believed in the power of prayer.
She looked forward to visits from Shawn and his “special friend” Wendy who brightened her day and provided food for the squirrels and birds for Mom to watch. Gay looked forward to our trips to West Virginia and would share stories of growing up with family and friends. She especially had good memories of relatives playing the banjos, guitars and fiddles as she danced the Charleston.
Gay is the loving mother of two sons, and daughter; six grandchildren; plus eight great- grandchildren.
The family will received friends from 5-8 PM Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at Cornerstone Church of Christ in Christian Union, 8280 Rickard Road, Plain City, where funeral services will be held at 1 PM Thursday. Procession to Forest Grove Cemetery for a Sunset Burial will depart the church at 4:30 PM Thursday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Central Ohio Chapter 1379 Dublin Rd, Columbus, OH 43215 or the Cornerstone Church of Christ in Christian Union. Visit fergusonfuneralhomeinc.com to share a special memory.
