Jean grew up on a farm in the Bethany, MO area where she met Elvis “Hoot” Gibson they were united in marriage on April 5, 1944 in Troy, Kansas. Moving to Iuka, KS to become farmers in the late 40's. In 1963, they moved to Cullison, KS to continue farming on their own farm and then in 1965 they moved to Turon, KS and opened Hoot n Jean's Cafe in Turon. They then moved to Haysville, KS in 2006.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elvis "Hoot" Gibson; 7 sisters; Mary Helen, Meyrle Lorraine, Elizabeth Viola, Charolett Arlene, Martha Lois Wilma Lee, Donna Rose and 3 brothers Thomas Glenn, Lloyd Carson, Richard Albert. Jean was the fourth of fourteen children.
Jean is survived by her sons, Gerald D. Gibson and Tom R. (Brenda) Gibson; grandchildren, Gerald R. Gibson, Tina (Sean) Stuchlik, Michelle (William) Moore, Amy Ghere, B. Todd (Luci) Hutchcroft, and Angela P. (Martin) Gomez; sisters, Neoma Jones, Cathy Nolan, and Sue Johns. 10 great-grandchildren; Danni Geher, Chance Geher, Walker Gibson, Mason Gibson, Colton Moore, Julia Moore, Norah Ewy, Madison Gomez, Nathan Gomez, Gavin Gomez, and 2 great-great grandchildren; Jalen Dodge and Lilanna Dodge.
Memorial Service: 10 am, Friday, November 15, 2019 at Smith Mortuary - Haysville, 7031 S. Broadway, Haysville, KS 67060.
