ARCHIE F. HELMAN
WAYNESBORO – Archie F. Helman, 83, formerly of 434 Fairview Avenue, died at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, May 19, 1988, in Leader Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Chambersburg, where he resided since August 1986.
Born May 17, 1905, in Guilford Township, he was the son of the late David and Caroline Sprenkle Helman.
His early life was lived in the Falling Springs area.
He was a member of the Waynesboro Church of the Brethren and the National Division of the American Association of Retired Persons.
He and his wife, N. Kathryn Harty Helman, were married in July 1927. They moved to Waynesboro 60 years ago. She died in March 1983.
As a young man, Mr. Helman worked for Hess Stone and Supply Co. and Emmert Manufacturing Co. From 1944 until retirement in 1970, he was a mechanic at Meyers Implement, Inc., Greencastle.
Surviving are three daughters and a son, Delores Brewer, Justina Southerly and Lemar O., all of Waynesboro; and Colleen Shockey of Blue Ridge Summit; a foster daughter, Lois Byers of Fort Loudon; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; a step-great-great-grandchild; and six brothers and a sister, Robert and Richard, both of Waynesboro; Maude Boyer, Joseph and Carroll, all of Chambersburg; Glenn of Hagerstown; and Eugene of Fayetteville.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Grove Funeral Home, 50 South Broad Street. The Rev. Dr. John L. Huffaker and the Rev. Edward Poling will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
