Carl was born on July 15, 1924 in Albion, Illinois, the son of John and Mary (Gill) Jacobs. He married Doris Mollet on August 25, 1948.
He is survived by Doris, his wife of 71 years; his 4 daughters, Ginger Hanley (Marty) of St. Louis, Missouri, Brenda Silano of Lincoln, Illinois, Sara Contevita (John) of Tucson, Arizona and Rebecca Jacobs (Ed Richter) of St. Louis, Missouri; his 8 grandchildren, Anthony (Christi), Mario (Monica), Nick, Amy (Alex), Carl (Alicen), Alice, Marion (Brian) and Brooklyn and 4 great granddaughters.
Carl was a member of Mt. Nebo and also attended First Congregational Church in Decatur. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois Agricultural Engineering Department. He was an Army Air Force World War II Veteran. He served as a navigator of a B-29 in the Pacific Islands of Tinian and Okinawa. He continued to love his country throughout his life. He worked at Oliver Corporation in Shelbyville, Decatur Pump Company and Tryco Manufacturing Company. He then had a successful career as an Insurance Broker. He was a member of the Shriners (Dune Buggy Division), American Legion and the VFW.
He belonged to the Star Shooter Square Dance Club of Blue Mound, IL, was an avid photographer, a huge Fighting Illini and Cardinals baseball fan, loved building wood furniture in his shop and helping his kids and grandkids with projects. He enjoyed world-wide travel as well as camping. Later in life, he enjoyed playing a tune on his harmonica. He was known for his generosity, his kind smile and positive outlook on life. He loved his family and friends, most especially his dear wife, Doris. He will be dearly remembered.
