PIPER, Mark Harry - age 80, of Flint, Michigan, and of Lakewood Ranch, Florida died on September 5, 2011, in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.
Harry was born in 1931 in Flint, Michigan to Dorothy and James Piper. He has two brothers, William and James. Harry married his true love, Wanda L. Hubbard, on June 20, 1953. Together they had two children, Mark Timothy Piper (Lola) and Kathryn Lynn Piper Jones (David).
Harry was a graduate of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and received his Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School in 1956. He joined the Genesee Bank Trust Department in 1957, working to become head of the Trust Department. He retired in 1987 as the Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Investment Officer of Genesee Bank.
He was a member of the State Bar Association, Genesee Bar Association, Rotary Club, President of the University of Michigan Club-Flint, a member of the U of M Alumni Association, and an adjunct professor at the University of Michigan-Flint.
Harry served on the General Board of Pensions for the United Methodist Church and served in several capacities for the Detroit Annual Conference on behalf of the United Methodist Church. Harry was a member of Court Street United Methodist Church in Michigan, Estes Park United Methodist Church of Colorado, and Harvest United Methodist Church of Florida. He taught Sunday school for over 20 years and was involved in Young Life as well as numerous other groups.
Harry enjoyed tackling life's challenges and activities. He participated in the annual Bobby Crim Race and loved hiking and skiing in the Rocky Mountains, swimming in the ocean, and traveling. He loved taking his entire family on vacation knowing that he was helping all the members of his family build lasting memories.
Harry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Wanda, and his children Mark T. Piper and Kathryn L. Piper Jones, and his brothers William Piper and James Piper (Karen) and his brother-in-law William Hubbard (Joan). His grandchildren include Andrea Piper, Mark Timothy Piper II, Ashley Piper Wood (Dave), Andrew Harry Piper, Laura Sigrist (Dan), David Paul Jones Jr., Nathan Jones, and Nicholas Jones. He also leaves behind seven wonderful great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews with whom he was close.
Harry was generous in giving his time and effort to see that others were served, and he delighted in helping everyone he could. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Harry was one of God's hard-working and loyal servants on earth.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held September 17, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at Court Street United Methodist Church located at 225 West Court Street, Flint, Michigan 48503.
