Diane Harper died in her sleep of cardiac arrest on November 10th. Diane was born in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph and Elsie (Schenk) Whipple. Diane moved with her family to Los Angeles in 1946 and graduated from Redondo Union High School in 1959. She married John David Harper 1960 in Yokohama, Japan. They were married for over 50 years and cared for each other with love and compassion, in sickness and health, until Johnny passed in 2011. Diane earned an AA degree from Golden West College and a BS in Dietetics and Food Administration from California State University Long Beach. Diane was the accountant for Johnny's marketing and photography firm, and worked as a grocery store vitamin department manager and clerk, and a quality assurance director for a vitamin company. Diane loved animals and had many interests including cooking, sewing, crafts, world cultures, nature, gardening, camping, and reading. Brought up a Christian, Diane lived by the teachings of Jesus, and she and Johnny raised their children with the principles of economic, environmental and social justice. Diane is survived by daughter Melanie (husband Glen, sons Justin and Evan) and son Jeffrey (children Ian, Ainsley and Aidan), and her older brother Dean. Diane was preceded in death by her parents and younger brother Jimmy (1944-1950). Interment in Los Angeles National Cemetery Columbarium on December 6, 2019.
