Prentice Wirey Dies In Tenn.

Prentice Wirey, 69, Clinton, Tenn., father of Mrs. Charles Henderson of Edinburg, died at 5:00 A.M. Tuesday morning at the Knoxville, Tenn., hospital following surgery 10 days ago at Clinton.

The deceased is at the Holley Funeral Home in Clinton. Funeral arrangements are pending.

A native of Edinburg, Mr. Wirey was born here August 21, 1904, the son of Michael and Mary Coy Wirey and was graduated from Edinburgh High in 1923. He was one of the hosts for the 50th anniversary reunion of the class at the alumni banquet last spring.

He was retired as a tool and dye man at the Oak Ridge, Tenn., Atomic Energy plant and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include the widow, Dorothy, at Clinton; two daughters, Mrs. Henderson of Edinburg, and Pamela Wirey of Clinton, college student at Knoxville; two sons, Phil, college student, and Allen of Clinton; two grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Ben Keaton of Greenwood.

Retired Y-12 machinist

Prentice D. Wirey, 69, Clinton, died Tuesday morning at the University of Tennessee Memorial Hospital in Knoxville. He had gone to Oak Ridge Hospital to be treated for an aneurism about two weeks ago, and had transferred to the UT Hospital a week later.

He had been a machinist at Y-12 from 1951 when he came to live in Oak Ridge until 1969 when he retired. He moved to Clinton several years after he started work here.

A native of Edinburg, Ind., he served in the U.S. Army and Navy during World War II and afterwards, and lived in many parts of the country during that time.

He enjoyed fishing in his spare time, and also was a member of First Baptist Church in Clinton.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Morgan Wirey; two daughters, Mrs. Janell Henderson, Indiana, and Miss Pamela Wirey, Clinton; two sons, Philip and Alan Wirey, Clinton; one sister, Mrs. Sula Keeton; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home. The Rev. Hayward Highfill, pastor of First Baptist Church in Clinton, will officiate. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Holley-Gamble Funeral Home.
