Donna Kay Atkinson, age 78, of Rochester, MN died Friday November 8, 2019 in Byron, MN.
Donna was born January 15, 1941 in Hayfield, MN, the daughter of Vernon and Violet (Wright) Allen. She grew up in West Concord, and graduated from West Concord High School.
On May 24, 1959 she married Daryl E. Atkinson at First Presbyterian Church in Kasson. The couple divorced in 1974.
Donna and her sons moved to Rochester, where she lived and worked for the rest of her life, except a short time in Hospice Care in Byron.
After high school Donna worked at The Bell Telephone Company. Later in life, she also worked for International Transport and JCPenney in Rochester for many years.
Donna loved traveling with her family, spending holidays with her loved ones, and eating around the family holiday dinner table. She enjoyed watching her soap operas while eating popcorn and drinking Diet Pepsi.
She also enjoyed collecting tea pots, and cheering for the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.
Her pride and joy were her grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons: Douglas (Susan) Atkinson of Rochester, MN, and Daniel Atkinson of Duluth, MN; 3 grandchildren: Nicole (Mike) Greenwaldt of Coon Rapids, MN, Zachary Atkinson of Rice Lake, WI, and Austin Atkinson of Rice Lake, WI; and 2 great-grandchildren: Alexia and Jayden Greenwaldt.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister, and one brother in infancy.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 2:00PM in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester with Rev. Lester Horntvedt officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
