James "PD" Wilton Stanton, age 94 of Nashville, TN passed away November 9, 2019.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn; parents, D. Thomas and Annie Stanton; siblings William, D. T., and Katherine See.

Survived by five cherished daughters, Melinda (David) Shoemaker, Bonnie (Steve) Parham, Julie Garrett, Maureen (Alan) Proctor, and Janie (Alan) Adams, twelve grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Josie Melton, and brother-in-law William Hoover.

He was a World War II Navy Veteran, and fought in the South Pacific, including Iwo Jima and Sai Pan. After the war, he graduated from David Lipscomb University where he competed on the gymnastics team. He retired from Royal-Liverpool Insurance in 1940 and worked for Loventhal Agency, then Bryan Ward and Elmore until retiring at the age of 92.

PD gained his nickname after playing baseball for the police department in his youth. To his family he was always “precious darling.” He left a legacy of faithful love for God, family and friends mixed with keen wit, humble integrity, and a tender heart.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, November 12th at eleven in the morning with visitation beginning at nine-thirty at West End Church, 3534 West End Ave. Graveside Service will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Honorary pall bearers are his Cumberland Mountain Family, Tom Wilson, Carolyn Baggett, Allen Bryan, Edie Mosely, and Howard Utley. Family members will serve as active pall bearers.
