Robert (Bob) Adolph Winkler, 99, of La Grange, Texas passed away on Friday, November 8, 2019.
Robert was born in High Hill, Texas on September 19, 1920, the son of Adolph and Carolyn (Kainer) Winkler. He married Angie Tupa on September 5, 1949 in Moravia, Texas.
Robert served in the U.S. Army from 1942 – 1945. Upon his return from the military, he worked as a Butcher for Consolidated Smokehouse in La Grange and retired after 40 years.
He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Robert was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he sang in the church choir, and served several years on the Building Fund Committee. He was also an active member of the Holy Name Society.
His many hobbies included his love of bowling where he bowled on several leagues and attended many bowling tournaments. He enjoyed dancing and traveling - especially to his 'Co C' Army reunions. Robert always enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Angie Winkler; daughter, Kathy Winkler of Houston, TX; son, Chris Winkler and wife, Frances, of San Antonio, TX; and daughter, Sandy Winkler Machemehl of Sugar Land, TX; four grandchildren: John Paul Machemehl and wife, Lara; Amy Machemehl; J. Colin Winkler; Cyril Hayden Winkler; and one great grandson, Hunter Machemehl.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Cleo Amiot and husband, Larry; two brothers: Gilbert Winkler and wife, Elsie; and Leonard Winkler and wife, Emily.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations. Family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 539 E. Pearl St., La Grange at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 13, 2019. Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in High Hill.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, P. O. Box 548, La Grange, TX 78945; or to Hospice of South Texas, 605 E. Locust Ave., Victoria, TX 77901.
