She was an employee of El Shabazz Academy for many years and later moved on to a career choice with the company Walmart, where she retired. She enjoyed bingo, trips to the casino, family reunions with family and always looked forward to spending time in Rockford, Illinois with her special niece, Latisha. Carla attended Harry Hill High School in Lansing, Michigan. She met her childhood friend, Donald Milton at 15 years old; he would later become her beloved husband of 22 years. To their union came two beautiful children; later they adopted her great-nephews.
Carla was a lifelong member of Jesus of Nazareth Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop Aaron and First Lady Virgie Milton. She was generally a quiet person, who was the backbone of her family. Behind that quietness was a sense of humor that mostly showed as a gentle smile. She had a determined mind that, once it was set, was not easily changed. Carla had a tender heart and loved people unconditionally; especially her husband, children and grandchildren. She loved to spend quality time with them.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her husband, daughter, 3 sons, 8 grandchildren, 2 sisters; 2 brothers, nieces, including a special niece she raised, nephews, special aunt and uncle; 2 goddaughters; many great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives and special friends.
She was preceded in death by son, Darryl Milton; her parents, grandparents, Arthur and Clara Cleveland; mother-in-law, Birdia Mae Milton; 4 aunts, Jane Johnson, Earnestine Calvert, Carolynn McKinley and Doris Leak; 2 uncles, James “T” Johnson and Willie Calvert; brothers-in-law, Darryl Milton and Dwight Milton; and nephew, Michael McKissic.
