Andrew Jackson Hosley was born in Arlington, Vermont, July 20, 1841, to Charles Henry and Abigail H. Carpenter Hosley, where he grew to manhood having attended the very brief terms of the upgraded school. Previous to the war, he moved to Illinois, where he enlisted in the 89th Illinois Infantry August 17, 1863 and served until he received his honorable discharge June 15, 1865.
Returning from the war, he married Jennie Matteson in 1866, to this union five children were born. Mrs. Hosley passed away in February, 1877. About two years later, in 1879, Mr. Hosley came west with his family of small children and settled on a soldier's claim 7 miles northwest of Stockton. On November 26 1882 he married Mrs. Molly Wickham and to this union eight children were born, five of whom and three of his older children survive him.
Mr. Hosley came to the vicinity of Ellis in 1893 and settled on his homestead 12 miles northeast of town where he made his home until he and Mrs. Hosley moved into Ellis two years ago. Mr. Hosley was a man of sterling qualities, a kind and loving father and husband, and a good neighbor, esteemed by all who knew him. He was especially interested in the Grand Army Post. He always hastened to the relief of the sick. He had a profound belief in the fatherly care of an infinite and merciful God.

Another veteran had answered the last roll call and had joined his comraded of long ago on the recruiting grounds of glory. He has finished his course in faith, believing that He who is able to deliver him in the hour of peril, protect him from the firy missel of the angry foe is also able to deliver his soul from the adversary, and as a soldier brave he stands at attention before his creator and his God to hearken to his every command. May his good qualities and kindly deeds be emulated by both his family and acquaintances. That he shall be remembered for his fatherly care which he has ever shown toward his children and their families.
Funeral services were held from the Congregational Church Monday at 2 p.m., the American Legion in charge, sermon by Rev. C.W. Harper. A large number of mourners and friends attending and interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
