March 2008 – Passage. Weldon E. (Duke) Nelson passed away peacefully March 31, 2008. He was born in Swedeburg, Nebraska in 1918, one of seven children of Hildur A. Freburg and Peter Nelson. Weldon married Gunnell Elsa Kristina Heine in Salt Lake City in 1960.

He grew up on a farm in Nebraska, graduated from Luther College in Wahoo, Nebraska -- then later moving to Idaho, and finally making his home in Utah in 1958. He retired from UTA and Pinkerton Security. Upon retirement, he had his own landscape maintenance business.

He is survived by his wife, Gunnell; daughters, Mariah (Trent Farnsworth) Nelson of Toledo, Oregon; and Cheryl (Marvin) Cender of Scottsdale, Arizona; grandchildren, Shaun Toler, Daniel, Sydney and Nathan Cender; brother, Glen Nelson; a niece; and two nephews and their children of Lincoln, Nebraska.

A viewing will be held at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street, Murray, Utah Thursday, April 3, 2008 from 10-11 a.m., with a graveside service following at 12 Noon at Lake Hills Memorial Park, 10055 S State Street, Sandy, UT. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made in the name of Weldon and Gunnell Nelson to the Salt Lake Community College Scholarship Fund, c/o Development Office, P.O.
