Carol Ann Robertson passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Tooele, Utah, on June 27, 2019, at age 68.
Carol Ann was born in Pocatello, Idaho, on Feb. 17, 1951, to Frank Carl and Bernice Ethel Harrison; she was the youngest of four sisters. Popular and well-liked, Carol excelled in school, where she was a member of the pep club, National Honors Society, and won awards for declamation. She graduated with honors from Pocatello High School, and seminary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1969.
She then began undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University where she met Craig Deleeuw Robertson. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on Feb. 12, 1971. They were blessed with three wonderful children before divorcing in 1986.
Carol then completed her bachelor’s degree in elementary education at BYU in 1987, and later certified in special education and ESOL instruction. She worked as an educator in the Tooele County School District for 30 years in Dugway, Tooele, and Stansbury Park. She retired in May as a fifth-grade teacher at Rose Springs Elementary School. Carol taught hundreds of children how to read; she was a recognized technology innovator, being one of the first educators to integrate one-to-one computers into her classroom instruction; she was a master in curriculum development and instructional planning; and she was a leader, mentor, and union representative at her school.
Carol Ann was a talented woman with many hobbies and interests. She loved cultural events and was a patron of the Ballet West and the Utah Symphony for many years. She was a talented musician who played many instruments, including the piano, organ, guitar, ukulele, recorder, and she was learning the flute. She also composed her own music. She was an expert seamstress, and excelled at handicrafts such as quilting, embroidery, knitting, crochet, and more. She loved swimming and would go to the pool regularly throughout the summer months. She was a voracious reader and seeker of new knowledge. Every subject interested her, but she especially enjoyed studying languages, science, and history. She frequently traveled throughout the United States with her daughter.
Carol Ann was a woman of unwavering faith. Throughout her life, Carol served in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and attended the temple regularly. She served in the Primary, Sunday School, Relief Society, and filled various music committee positions. She always served and cared for all within her reach.
Carol was a cheerful, kind-hearted, intelligent woman of great faith. She faced all the difficulties of life with courage and optimism. Her example of love, service, and learning have blessed countless lives and will leave an indelible legacy for all who have been privileged to know her.
Carol Ann is survived by her children: Sean (Tooele), Shanda (Annandale, Virginia), and Frank Gerrit Robertson and his spouse Julie (West Jordan); and by her sisters Ethel Rae Griggs and Alene Harrison. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister Evelyn Harrison Green.
Public viewings will be held at Tate Mortuary, 110 S. Main, Tooele, Utah, on Tuesday, July 9, 6 – 8 p.m., and before the funeral service Wednesday, July 10, from 11 a.m. – 12:45 p.m., at the Tooele North Stake Center, 583 N. 270 East, Tooele, Utah. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. The burial will take place at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Pocatello, Idaho.
