Deacon Belter was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a member of and chaplain for the American Legion Post 234, Knights of Columbus #4847, and chaplain for the Legion of Mary.
Deacon Belter was survived by his wife; children, Annie (Rich) Mate, Barb (Dan) Fitzgerald, Andrew, Charlie and Paul; six brothers and sisters; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Robert.
The family received friends on Friday, September 13, 2019, from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at St. Ambrose Catholic Parish, 929 Pearl Road, Brunswick, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. Ambrose Catholic Parish. The family received friends at the church on that morning from 9:30 – 10:45 am. Burial followed in Resurrection Cemetery, Valley City Ohio.
Contributions could be made in the deacon's memory to St. Ambrose Catholic Works of Mercy.

In Remembrance – Deacon Clement J. Belter
The funeral Mass for Deacon Clement J. Belter was celebrated by Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus Roger Gries at 11 a.m. Sept. 14 2019 at St. Ambrose Church, 929 Pearl Road, Brunswick Ohio. Father Bob Stec, St. Ambrose pastor, was the homilist.
The wake began with Vespers at 3 p.m. Sept. 13 2019 at St. Ambrose. Bishop Martin Amos, Bishop Emeritus of Davenport Iowa, presided and Deacon Gary Tomazic was the homilist. The wake continued until 7 p.m.
Survivors included his wife, Carol (Piotrowski), children, and grandchildren.
He was ordained to the permanent diaconate for service to the Diocese of Cleveland Ohio on June 17, 1979 in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, downtown Cleveland Ohio, by Bishop James Hickey.
Deacon Belter was assigned to serve at St. Ambrose Parish from 1979 until his death. He was appointed to an additional assignment at St. Francis Xavier Parish, Medina Ohio, from Nov. 1, 1985 until Dec. 1, 1992. Deacon Belter was a faithful chaplain of the Knights of Columbus and the Legion of Mary. He also had a great heart for veterans as an active member of the VFW and was dedicated to being present as a member of the color guard at funerals.
He prayed daily for a greater respect for life from conception to natural death. He was vibrant and full of life and had a sincere passion for spreading the Gospel and doing whatever he could for the Church and his parish community, which he loved greatly.
Interment was at Resurrection Cemetery in Valley City, Ohio.
