Oppliger, Evangeline "Vannie" passed away peacefully on October 18, 2011. She was born on December 23, 1918 in Burns, Kansas and spent her formative years in Emporia, Kansas until she met and married Oscar Oppliger. In the Forties the couple moved to Arizona where their four children were born. Although being a wife, mother, and grandmother were Vannie's greatest joys, playing golf came in a very close second. In her later years Vannie also was very active in her church and was known for her homemade cookies at church functions. Preceded in death by Oscar, Vannie is survived by her children, Cynthia Benson (Lynn) of Superior, AZ, Michael (Donna) of Houstonb, TX, Georgene Hughes (Ross) of Houston, TX and Frederick "Rick" (Lisa) of Phoenix, AZ. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and one great-great grand child. A celebration of Vannie's life is being planned for later in the year and will be held in Clarkdale, AZ.
