Breakman for Buffalo Eagle Coal Company. Died of Internal injuries, fractured pelvis and right arm. Probably from mine accident. Death certificate lists parents as Frank Hager and Sarah Smith. I found Sarah Smith in the 1910 Lincoln County, Census as widowed. I have now made the connection of Sarah and her children to Frank Hager. The informant for the death was also Rufus Hager further making the connection and the body was removed to Midkiff, Lincoln County, West Virginia.

At age 16 he was hired as a brakeman for a mine in Logan County and was killed in an accident on his first day at work. The death certificate proves this family story except for the "first day of work" bit.

His father Frank Hager was a Revenue agent and also met an untimely death, being shot in his front yard by a relative while wrestling over a gun. Witnesses say both Frank and the other party claimed it was accidental. He died a few days later, probably because that's how long it took to get him to a hospital in Huntington. He's buried at the John McKinley "Shug" Hager cemetary at Ninemile.
