He attended school at Luling High School and later transferred to Seguin High School, where he graduated in May of 1986. He played football during school where he obtained the name “Hurricane”. Family’s and friends know him by “Smokin Joe”, “Joe”, “J Piper, “Mr. Hyde”, and “Bear”.
An exceptionally patient man, he was known for being that true friend you can always expect to be there. Also known for cooking a brisket that sliced like butter, wings that would make you sing and a hamburger that you would never forget.
His hobbies included writing music, cooking and playing his games. He was an extravagant writer and musician creating the rap group R.O.M.E. with his younger brother Lateef. They had an ample amount of shows and showcases from town to town. His love of music was second to the love that he had for all of his family and friends. He loved, “Making sure his family was straight”, as he would say. Family events would include him being on the grill, great times, and famous company.
Joel went home to be with our Lord on April 29, 2018.
He is survived by his parents; daughter; siblings, four grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was a phenomenal man and will be missed dearly.
