HARTSVILLE - Funeral services for James E. "Dick" Whisenhunt, Jr., 87, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2006, at West Hartsville Baptist Church. The Rev. Paul Sullivan and the Rev. Dr. Bev Kennedy will officiate with burial in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Brown- Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 9, 2006, from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the West Hartsville Baptist Church, 1003 W. Carolina Ave., Hartsville SC 29550.
Mr. Whisenhunt died Sunday, May 7, 2006. Born in Whittier, NC, he was a son of the late James E. and Frances Gibbs Whisenhunt. He was a faithful charter member of West Hartsville Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a pilot during World War II and had retired as an engineer from Sonoco Products Co. with 41 years of service. He was previously involved in the Civitans, Little League Baseball, Boy Scouts and Civil Air Patrol.
Surviving are his wife, Louise Malphus Whisenhunt of Hartsville, SC; sons and daughters-in-law, Dickie and Reba Whisenhunt of Anderson, SC; Steve and Elaine Whisenhunt of Augusta, GA; daughters, Winnie Franks of Newnan, GA, Fran Floyd of Chester, SC; sister, Louise Lane of Hazelwood, NC; brother, Earl Whisenhunt of Chandler, NC; brother-in-law, Happy Malphus of Hartsville, SC; grandchildren, Jim Whisenhunt, Shannon Keller, Joseph Whisenhunt, Christy Graves, Amanda Haggan, Andrew Whisenhunt, Steven Whisenhunt, Matt Whisenhunt, Amy Westbrook, Natalie Franks, Tripp Floyd, Hannah Floyd; 18 great-grandchildren.
