Fr. Weiland was born Thomas Joseph Weiland to Nicholas J Weiland and Magdalene Till. (Luke was his religious name)

He was a member of St. Stephen Priory, Dover, MA.

He was educated in the public schools of Logan; at the Franciscan College, Teutopolis, Ill; at St. Rose Priory, near Springfield, Ky; at St. Joseph's Priory, near Somerset, Oh; and at the Dominican House of Studies, Washington, DC.

He was ordained in the old chapel of Caldwell Hall, The Catholic University, Washington, DC, June 21, 1908, by Bishop Dennis J. O'Connell, the rector of the University.

Fr. Weiland offered his first Solemn Mass, June 28, 1908 at St. John the Evangalist, in Logan, Ohio.

After ordination, Fr. Weiland taught at Aquinas College in Columbus, Ohio and for some time served as its vice-president until 1927, when he began parish work at St. Dominic's in Detroit. In 1935 he was made superior of the Blessed Martin de Porres Mission in Columbia SC, and in 1942 he returned to Ohio to serve as chaplain for the sisters at St. Mary of the Springs, Columbus, Ohio.

In late 1951 he was assigned to the novitiate at St. Stephen's in Dover, Mass. as a professor and as confessor to the novices, and it was in Dover that he died.
