Kimberly A. “Kim” Gary, age 53, of Waterloo, died Monday, November 4, 2019 at MercyOne Waterloo of natural causes.
She was born on August 30, 1966 in Iowa City, the daughter of Thornton Gary Jr. and Annette (Strong) Rivers. She graduated from Waterloo East High with the class of 1984.
She continued her education through Job Corps to receive her CNA certification.
Kim married Robert Smith in 1998; they later divorced.
She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Covenant for 23 years until she was unable to work.
She was a member of Saint Mark Baptist Church in Waterloo.
Kim was a great cook. She was also very talented creating special, personalized tables and crafting handmade blankets. She treasured the time she spent with her family and friends. Kim loved her family very much.
Survivors include her mother, Annette (Donell) Rivers of Waterloo; son, Traymurrus Mills of Greensboro NC; daughter, Kandace Mills of Waterloo; two grandsons, A’zorion Mills and Keegan Mills; a host of brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, God sisters, and God brothers who loved her dearly.
Preceded in death by father, Thornton Gary; daughter, Jasmine Mills; maternal and paternal grandparents; brother, Todd Gary; God mother, Essie Johnson; and God sister, Rose Johnson.
