Prior to his retirement in 1989, Jim's long and distinguished career included serving as President of St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center; President of Franciscan Management Services, Inc.; Vice President of SUNY Upstate Medical Center; Administrator of University Hospital; Administrator, Syracuse University Hospital of the Good Shepherd; and the U.S. Public Health Service Bureau of Medical Services. Jim also service as Director, Regional Advisory Board at Excellus; Trustee and VP of Community Health Foundation of Western and Central New York; Trustee, St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center; Chairman, Samaritan Center Foundation; Director, Samaritan Center; Chairman, Board of Directors, Tompkins Community Support Services, Inc.; Treasurer, United Way of Central New York; Chairman, Advisory Board of Health, County of Onondaga; Professor of Administrative Medicine, College of Medicine, Upstate Medical Center; Trustee, American Hospital Association; President, Hospital Association of New York State; Chairman, Mid-Atlantic Hospital Assembly; Chairman, Hospital Executive Council, Syracuse, NY; President, Syracuse Hospital Council; Director, Blue Cross of Central New York, Chairman, Board of Directors, Iroquois Nursing Home; Director, Plaza Nursing Home; Director, Health Services Association of Central New York, Inc.; Chairman, Board of Directors, Health Services Medical Corp.; Trustee, Syracuse Savings Bank, Director, Fleet-Norstar Bank of Syracuse; Vice President and Director, Central New York Health Systems Agency; Trustee, Hospital Review and Planning Council of CNY; and Trustee, Central New York Regional Medical Program.
Jim is survived by his son, Thomas F. (Kathy) Abbott, of Mebane, NC; and three grandsons, Sean, Casey and Jackson. He is predeceased by his wife, Mary Louise; son, James H. Abbott, Jr.; and daughter, Amy Abbott.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 11 at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, DeWitt. Entombment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt.
