A memorial service will be held Monday, July 22, 11:00 AM at Saint Smyrna Baptist Church. Final arrangements have been entrusted to Willie A. Watkins Funeral Home - Carrollton Chapel.
Jessie James “Smooth” Cook of 38 Spence Avenue, Newnan, Georgia was born June 26, 1944 to the late William Howard and Willie Lou Johnson Cook in Coweta County. He departed this life early in the morning on July 16, 2019. Jessie was the fifth of ten children. His parents and six siblings preceded him in death: Sallie Williams, Glennette Hardy, Roosevelt Johnson, Grace Cook, Shirley Newson and Eddie Floyd Cook.
Jessie received his education in the Coweta County School System. He entered school at Walter B. Hill, attended Eastside and Ruth Hill Schools.
He was a member of the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church.
In “Smooth’s” heyday, he was a hard worker. He poured concrete Monday through Friday, and partied the entire weekend. Even in his emaciated state, he was still one of the best “Shade Tree” mechanics around. Smooth loved to dance, tell jokes and make people laugh. Though he loved life and lived it to the fullest his way, he was loved by many.
Jessie was married to Annie Murl Wynn for about eight years. They had no children.
Jessie lost his leg in 2010 and spent the rest of his life being cared for by his loving nephew Jesse (Chucky) and Viki Hardy.
