Lawrence Rolland Carter, age 87, died at the Charles George Veterans Hospital on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 after a battle with Alzheimer’s and congestive heart failure.

He was born in Sylacauga, Alabama on June 5, 1932 to the late Ivy L. Carter and Euna Thrash Carter. Larry moved to North Carolina in February 2019 after losing his beloved wife Marylynn Claire Carter on February 9, 2019 at their home in Perkingston, MS, where they lived for 35 years. After his wife’s death, Larry lived with his son Craig and his wife Pam before he passed.

Larry loved sitting outside overlooking the mountains, smoking cigars, talking about his life and riding along with his son playing golf. He was a veteran who served in the United States Air Force for 5 years. After serving the military, he went into the granite and marble companies in the United States. He constructed some of the tallest buildings in almost every state with his trusted sidekick James. Larry left a legacy within these buildings through his craftmanship. He also was very passionate about gardening. After Larry retired, he maintained a well-manicured flower and tree garden at every home he lived at. Larry loved God, his family and his Country.

Surviving are his children, three daughters, Debra Lynn Carter and her husband Bob Day and Regina Lynn Huett and her husband Thomas and Theresa Lynn; and his three sons, Lawrence Carter Jr. and his wife Joy, Craig Carter and his wife Pamela and Todd Carter ; ten grandchildren, Jessica, Jordan, Tyler, Conner, Kyle, Devon, Katie, Brad, Brittney and Cassidy; five great-grandchildren; and one sister Rebecca Joiner Taylor along with multiple extended family and Friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 35 years, Marylynn Claire Carter, parents Ivy and Euna Carter and one sister, Sandra Shaw.

The family wishes to acknowledge the love and support shown by the Doctors, Nurses and staff who were entrusted with Larry’s care for the past month at the Charles George Veterans Medical Center in Asheville, thank you for all that you do.
